EXERCISE INTRODUCING THE CRITICIZED CHILD TO THE CRITIC

Choose a Critic that you already have a trusting relationship with. Access the Criticized Child that is being harmed by it, as described above. Then answer the following questions in your journal:

What is your image of the Child?

What are the Child’s feelings and beliefs?

How is Child being harmed by Critic?

Introduce the Critic to the Child. Did the Critic know it was harming the Child?

How did the Critic respond to learning that it has been causing the Child pain?

Is the Critic now ready to let go of criticizing?

If not, what is it concerned about?

If so, what new role is the Critic willing to take on, or how can it change its statements from harmful to helpful?
